Last week we would have explored the ISTE Standards: For Education Leaders 3.1  Equity and Citizenship Advocate, this week's blog posts will discuss the ISTE Standards: For Education Leaders 3.2 Visionary Planner.


Just in case you may be wondering what the ISTE Standards: For Education Leaders are and why I feel the need to discuss them in my blog, let me do a recap.

The International Society for Technology in Education's Standards: For Education Leaders (ISTE) are frameworks developed to assist educators in the effective use of technology by transforming pedagogy, to accelerate learning and to find solutions in education.

Why discuss the ISTE Standards: For Education Leaders in my blog?

As an educator and leader my philosophy for the integration of technology is to embrace and utilize technology wherever possible to renew passion for teaching and learning in the classroom. It is my goal to make accommodations so that students' chances of thriving in their learning environment are increased and teachers can effectively adopt new methods and digital tools in their content creation and execution which are relatable for today's students who present with different learning styles.  

The ISTE Standards: For Education Leaders is critical to my vision as a leader because it provides guidance with the information and support on how to integrate technology in my institution through leading, teaching, and learning.

One of the major areas within the ISTE Standards: For Education Leaders is Visionary Planner, which will be my focus as I discuss how I adopted its components at my institution. 


What is the Visionary Planner?




Visionary Planner is a framework that encompasses transforming learning with technology in any educational institution. It requires leaders like myself to determine how my plan will lead my institution in that direction. 

 

What does the Visionary Planner entail?

For this to happen, as an educational leader I must follow the guides listed below:

  1. Develop a Vision  
  2. Create a strategic plan
  3. Evaluate the plan's progress 
  4. Communicate with stakeholders 
  5. Share the outcomes with peers

 

Who would be included in this Visionary Planner?

The institution's vision has to include individuals, personnel and stakeholders that are associated with the institution. These components are:

  • Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training
  • School personnel (teachers & administrators)
  • Students
  • Parents
  • the Business Community

Component 3: Evaluate Plan Progress

  Component 3: Evaluate Plan Progress   After the Strategic plan was rolled out in September 2023, regular evaluation of how the digital tools and software were working to accomplish the goals set was necessary. This helped inform the decision-making process to determine  if the technology and methods we used reaped success in achieving our objectives, and how we could improve them.  The evaluation also documented what students had learned and how well they were learning. This was a way of  tracking student progress.  This allowed me as an institutional leader to make adjustments to the technology, methods, and assessments where needed.  This process was observed at the student/teacher pedagogical level using  Google Work Space For Education  software.
